When importing a vehicle from abroad, the Slovak authorities require sworn/certified translations of the documentation for the imported vehicle.
Car registration papers are among the most frequently translated documents for importing motor vehicles from abroad and later registering them in Slovakia.
What documents do you need?
To register a vehicle in Slovakia, you need to submit the following:
- sworn translation of your car registration,
- confirmation of the vehicle’s deregistration (deregistration),
- Vehicle safety/roadworthiness test (MOT) and exhaust emissions inspection (EC) — known locally as an STK and EK respectively,
- purchase agreement, donation agreement, invoice – if the documents certifying the transferral of ownership or vehicle title are in a foreign language, you must submit them together with an official sworn translation
Documents needed to register your imported vehicle almost exclusively require a sworn translation.
